The iPhone 5 went on sale in the Irish shops today, a week after it launched in the United Kingdom. Demand for the phones high in the past few days has been, and today the launch was no exception. Determined crowds of Apple fans braved the September weather to queue outside Dublin city phone shops, in the hope of the first to get their hands on the device.
Some take their opportunities outside O2 from Grafton Street store is there since 2 am; others had queued since 4: 30 am to be sure that the model of phone they wanted. Shops opened earlier than usual for the occasion.
Earlier today, Apple's chief executive Tim Cook issued a written apology after widespread criticism about mapping software with the latest iteration of the company of the iPhone released.
"We are very sorry
for the frustration that led to our customers and we do everything that we can has to Maps better," said Mr. Cook in a letter to customers posted today on the website of the company.
Apple, touting the map function as an important change in the software iPhone 5, to replace Google Maps Navigation application program built, the iPhone default map software since the device was first introduced in 2007.
While Apple's new software features such as turn-by-turn navigation, have shifted by users and introduces technology gadget reviewers for when navigating users get disoriented, for the lack of public transport information and for not having an exhaustive list of monuments for people to find.
Files of the device would be limited. Apple took two million reorders for the iPhone 5 in the first 24 hours. In the first weekend of the release that figure rose to five million in sales, surpassing the previous record of the 4S, which sold more than four million in its first weekend.
However, said chief executive Tim Cook would continue to receive iPhone 5 shipments regularly shops and customers can still order online.
The mobile networks had their own ways of dealing with expected demand. Customers can phone anyone and their interest in the O2 Ireland decided to sales to existing customers initially to limit only.
Operators said demand had been strong throughout the day. O2 Ireland said in the hundreds of different shops in the whole country had queue this morning for the launch.
The iPhone 5 is Apple's thinnest and lightest phone yet. It comes with a 4 inch screen-larger than its predecessor-and a new A6-chip that Apple says performs faster than the iPhone 4S.
The phone initially went on sale on September 21 in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore. It went on sale today in 22 other countries, including Ireland, Spain, Portugal and Italy.
